Contemplating the Mundane

I’ve just returned from a most awesome trip.

My paradigms have been shifted, my focus changed, my horizons broadened, my life enriched.

For a solid week, I was engulfed with pristine happiness.

Here’s my new perception:

It is time for me, not to be fearless, but just to fear less.
Embrace the life and times given. Make the best of every situation. Take the good with the bad, make that lemonade, and wait for deliverance, but enjoy the present.

Chuck off the “drag queen” status.
Negativity attracts negativity. It’s a cycle. I don’t want to become a Cyclic redundancy error.

Learn more, dare more, be more, take charge.

And on new experiences;

I tried sake for the first time ever, at a Japanese restaurant. It is something everyone should try at least once. A clear liquid, served hot. It’s like tea, but with a bit of a kick. I had 2 tots, I believe. And I think sake, as with raw fish, will grow on me eventually.

I recommend taking a walk in the picturesque lanes of Stellenbosch. It is beautifully fragrant this time of year. Also, the days are longer there. Twilight meanders it’s way through the trees and ancient buildings, fading into darkness sluggishly.

I can’t wait to make it my home.

Glad to see you back in action, my friend. I've missed you, every few days or a week or so I checked back to see an sign of activity.

Anyway, I was happy to see your avatar at the shack.

Glad you've found a place you wish to make home. And glad to see you rise up from the doldrums.

I read 'Disgrace' by JM Coetzee, at recomendation from my old writing prof, and to get a sense of your country. It's deffinitely a place that encourages depression, it seems. Good novel, though.

Yep, as talkative as ever here. My writing has shappened quite a bit, too. And about the Godsmack thing, get this: the US Navy purchased the rights to use 'Swallowing You In My Hate' (I think that's what it's called) for their 'accelerate your life' comercials on TV up here in the States. Marketing the war to the young is seldom a pretty thing. The military advertises on TV constantly; I think all branches of the military should only be allowed to use 'One' or 'Disposable Heroes' by Metallica on their comercials, personally.

Glad to here you're in good spirits. I'm OK up here, but I could be better. Happy people don't write at their best, so I'm glad to be middle-grounded for the moment. But I miss Detroit. I loved my dieing city by the straits. Can't have everything, though...

hi there, mr eric

my apologies for keeping you waiting. the problem is that i am in the middle of nowhere - little to no internet connection. we do what we can. will still be in this place for 2 more months. the humanity.

i have yet to read Disgrace, but i will make a note of it. i dont think it's the country so much as the people i work with that get me down. one person in particular, anyway.

i love One by Metallica. i believe KoRn did a cover of that for Mtv's icon show. It's another song that reminds me of Full Metal Jacket, a movie i think all future enlistees should watch.

my spirits are certainly up. i had a most excellent mini-holiday. just what i needed to remember what the important things in life are:

- love
- comaraderie
- eating good
- playing hard
- being with the ones you love
- travel
- new experiences
- maintaining hope
- walks in the park

i could go on all day.. ^_^

I know what you mean, friend. Glad to hear that you are connecting well with the environment around you.

Sorry to hear about a shitty co-worker, however. That is never any fun to deal with.

Eating well is key! When I get depressed I eat bad food, and eat less and less, finally getting to where I'm almost emaciated, which is not good and will affect higher function, even if we don't think it does. I also finally laid of the pot. Smoking it, that is. Yes, it made it easy to forget bad things and to sleep at night, but the negatives are subltle and hide behind perceived positives.

Playing hard and eve having a bit of wreckless fun is important. And so is travel! The same few walls can become our cells so easilly.

And yes, One by Metallica is awesome. I was a huge Metallica fan up until the load abum and after. That stuff let me down. But I have my old Metallica collection. ANd Korn has always rocked, ever since the first time I heard 'Blind'.

I agree; Full Metal Jacket should be requirred watching for new recruits before enlistment. And while we're at it, lets have them read 'Johnny Got His Gun' by Dalton Trumbo, since that was what inspired the song 'One'.

Glad to hear from you! See you soon, Neko!

mr eric.

alas! it is an environment that i only see for a short while between huge spaces of time. i am back in the hole where i need to work. it's not difficult to ascertain why this place sends me into a stagnation of depression. it happens.

it's even worse when the co-worker is a senior employee. as in, senior manager. the #2 man in the department, located just under the big boss. my gawd, i severely dislike that man. both personally and professionally.

there is certainly pleasure to be found in culinary treats. :) especially when they are served by a loved one. it's good to know someone with a big helping of mad skillz in the kitchen. especially, when one is as horrible as i am at cooking. ^_^

metallica and koRn are etched into my adolescent years, and most of their songs are irrevocably tied to the memories of my growing up. for that reason alone, i will always cherish them. One, Enter Sandman, The Unforgiven, Fuel, Nothing Else Matters, and then there's Blind, Freak on a Leash, Clown, Balltongue, All in the Family, Somebody Someone, Thoughtless, Trash... and a couple dozen others.

does it make me unpatriotic if i don't believe in war as a solution? why cant everybody just get along and play nice?

**who knows**

i've never done any smoking to any pots, so, i don't know what it's like. from what i understand, using external products to take away emotional pain, leads to more pain.

the only way to heal emotionally is from within.

or, so i've heard.

maybe one day we will all get our sh*t together. we can only hope.

Wasn't Cyclic Redundancy Error a Meshuggah song? Perhaps I'm thinking of "New Millennium Cyanide Christ." Or what about "Satan Cloned teh Cookie Pig" by Anal Stench? That's, like, the best song title I've ever heard.
