a nation of bastards

so, i was sitting at lunch today, the whole team of underlings in the audit [bosses eating at posher place, of course]. anyway. and, anti-social person that i am, i was just sitting there, staring out into space...

and i thought – wow. 3 indians. 2 white. 1 coloured. and 2 black.

the government sets these standards for the composition of staff in business in this country. if you wanna do business, these are the races you need.

its interesting.

and, i thought – what a diverse group of people. coz, everybody had different eating requirements, religions, culture quirks. its... fascinating.

anyway. id better stop daydreaming and get to work.

What? No Asians or Samoans? Perhaps you should file a complaint.

Indians are pretty loved. They're non-white, and pretty well educated. My dad reckons Durban is the best place to be if you want to make up BEE requirements.

yeah, but the silly thing is, you know how you get more indians in durban, and more coloureds in the cape -- you'd think the BEE requirements would take into account the area and its inhabitants its in. it doesnt.

so, in the cape you would need to transfer an indian guy from durban to meet with the requirements, costing the company a whole lotta money, where you have a bunch of coloured people, for example without work.

its weird.

Depends what you mean by Asian, Morbid. Let's not mix all our Koreans, Vietnamese and Japanese together now.

I was part of a team giving a training course last week. About 30% of the class was from Cape Town's public libraries. Cape Town municipality sent an attendance form for the librarians. They had to fill in their name, place of work, contact phone number, gender, race and employee work number. Wow.

Interesting...but I still think that in theory this little scheme looked better than it works in real life.
